Editorial Reviews:
As far as sequels go, Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 belongs in the ranks of The Godfather: Part II – a sequel that improves on the original. What made the first release of Elements so impressive wasn't that it was especially easy to use; it was how much of Photoshop's power you could get for such a low price. Elements 2.0, however, takes big steps forward in both power and ease.
Photoshop Elements 2.0 For Dummies explains this program from the ground up, assuming that you know absolutely nothing about the program or even about image editing in general. But step by step, concept by concept, tool by tool, you'll gradually work through a thorough examination of Photoshop Elements 2.0 and the incredible things it can do for your images.
While this book is organized in logical order, with the lofty idea that you'll read it cover to cover, the best thing about Photoshop Elements 2.0 For Dummies is that you don't have to. Feel free to skip around if you get restless. There are even 16 color pages stuck in the book to show you things that can't be explained in black and white. You'll gain insight into
- Getting to know the Photoshop tools and palettes
- Editing your images
- Saving your files in proper format
- Making a bad image better
- Painting and distorting your images
Just as one CD contains both the Windows and Mac versions of Elements, so this one took tells both Windows and Mac users everything they need to know to use Elements on their system of choice. And because Elements 2.0 runs on both Windows XP and Mac OS X, we've also updated the figures in this book to show off the spiffy look of these two new operating systems.
As an Elements user, you've got a whole lot of Photoshop power coiled up inside your computer, waiting for you to discover how to harness it. Photoshop Elements 2.0 For Dummies is your guide for doing just that.

Summary: Not so hot!!!
Comment: Very disapointed in this book; nowhere up to the other "For Dummies" volumns I've purchased. As a "how to" instructional volumn I found it very lacking in clarity and comtinuity as a step-by-step manual.

Summary: Photoshop Elements 2 Joke Book
Comment: While I found a lot of help from reading the book it was not worth wading through the author's feeble attempt to be a comedian. If I want to read comedy I will buy a joke book.
I would certainly not recommend this book.

Summary: A Bit Humor Makes the Learning Easier
Comment: The real difference between Photoshop and Photoshop Elements is the price. Looking at Amazon, Photoshop (CS2) is $579, Photoshop Elements is $69.99.
When Photoshop came along, it was a marvelous gift to photographers. Adobe took the package and every year or so came out with a new version having dozens if hot hundreds of new feature. Like a lot of other software, the new features became more and more esoteric as everything really important was built into the package.
Result, Adobe, like other software companies, came out with 'light' versions of their mainstream products. Photoshop Elements is one of these. It's kind of like taking a step backwards for a version or two. The result is that Photoshop Elements really is Photoshop with a few high end (and infrequently used) features removed.
If you are just starting out, I recommend that you start with Elements. You'll use the standard Photoshop screens, the standard commands, the same philosophy. And this book is an excellent way to get started. The For Dummies books are the fastest way to get up and running I know. They are well written, informative, and concentrate on what you need to know to get started.

Summary: The cutesiness is dull, dull, dull
Comment: I learned a lot from this book, but it was annoying to have to plow through a lot of meaningless chit chat to do so. The book could be 25% shorter without all the senseless yammer--which was not that funny. When I'm trying to understand a particular tool or function, I don't appreciate the extra time it takes to read about how pixel resolution is like grandma's oatmeal cookies, or whatever.
Customer Rating:
Summary: Great Help
Comment: I always had difficulty with the original manual. On a given subject it referred you to another place in the manual. The Dummies book does a better job of covering a subject in it's entirety. The index is also much better.
